Geneva, Switzerland, July 16, 2020 – STMicroelectronics (NYSE: STM), a global semiconductor leader serving customers across the spectrum of electronics applications, today announced the signing of two M&A agreements related to the acquisitions of the entire share capital of Ultra Wide Band specialist BeSpoon and of the cellular IoT connectivity assets of Riot Micro.
After closing of the two transactions, subject to customary regulatory approvals, ST will further strengthen its offer for wireless connectivity and, in particular, the roadmap for its STM32 microcontrollers and secure MCUs.
These acquisitions complement ST’s current offering of wireless microcontrollers, which includes the Bluetooth 5.0 and IEEE 802.15.4 communication protocols together with the world’s first System-on-Chip with LoRa® technology.
Wireless microcontrollers are part of STM32 product offering, which includes over 1000 different devices with over six billion parts shipped to customers.
With these acquisitions, STM will focus on all wireless communication protocols for IoT.
- BeSpoon – Real-Time locating system for smart industry.
- UWB technology for precise indoor tracking developed by BeSpoon offers tailored solutions addressing specific use cases, designed from the silicon right up to the application.
- Riot Micro – RM1000 cellular IoT Baseband is a low power system-on-chip (SoC) for the Internet of Things (IoT) and Machine-to-Machine (M2M) communication.
- The device is a dual-mode LTE-M/NB-IoT cellular baseband with integrated SRAM and full software stack comprising LTE L2/L3, AT Command stack, and TCP/UDP/IP stack.
